The event that prompted me to attempt writing came as a result of my father dying. I always enjoyed telling my kids of the things I got up to when I was young. So I thought I’d write about my childhood so that my children, and their children could get an idea of what it was like growing up in those hard times in a large, poor working class family back in the fifties and sixties. I realised on Dad’s passing that we are not immortal, and everyone should leave something behind them so that their children can relate to the differences in lifestyles and attitudes towards material things as we move forward into the future. After completing the first part autobiography; “Warro – The early years”, I felt a deep sense of satisfaction and achievement. That’s why I write now, because I get a buzz out of it. It’s akin to completing a painting or a carving project. Seeing the end product is so gratifying to someone like me, who to be honest is very determined in completing something he starts.

Moving forward, I intend to keep on writing, painting and being creative as long as I have the mind and physical ability to do so. Since finishing the first part autobiography, I’ve completed “Warro Yo – 22 Years” which takes the reader through the twenty two years of my service in the Colours. Both these books, along with the two fictional works listed on this page, are available in print (limited hard copies of Warro Yo – 22 Years) or you can purchase an electronic (epub/pdf etc) version exclusively through this website. I intend keeping on writing until I run out of ideas.

Next project? I’m considering venturing into children’s illustrated books for the benefit of our Grandchildren and others out there.

Autobiographies

Warro – The Early Years

My first part autobiography of growing up in a working class family in the Black Country town of Wolverhampton during the 50’s and 60’s. It tells of the hardships, troubles and the fun times during those difficult years for our large, 14 sibling family. We were raised by our factory working Dad and loving Mom in a council house on the Fordhouses estate.

Mom had actually given birth to 16 children, but unfortunately lost two sons; Fred who died of pneumonia during the War and the other (not named) during birth a year before I was born.

Warro Yo – 22 Years

My second part autobiography takes me through my 22 years military career. From initial recruit and trade training in 1970 at the Royal Signals training establishments in Catterick Camp, North Yorkshire. On then to various postings at home and around the world.

It chronicles my adventures and misadventures in different units in both the UK and in other countries, such as Germany, Norway, Cyprus and Lebanon. Working in diverse and interesting roles, like Infantry Brigade, Maritime, Armoured Brigade, Air Support, Special Forces and Electronic Warfare. Before retiring from the Colours in early 1992.
